After the surgery, a significant reduction in the release of ghrelin (hunger) hormone can be observed, but the feeling of hunger remains. Of course, this situation can be viewed positively in terms of our health, but there are some conditions that cause excessive hunger and they are bad for health:

  • Skipping meals
  • Inadequate nutrition
  • Eating sugary foods high in carbohydrates
  • Consuming sugar content of beverages (tea, coffee, fruit juice, etc.)
  • Taking supplemental vitamins
  • Only fluid intake
  • Menstruation in women
  • Insufficient water drinking
  • Eating a small amount of food in one go

Please don’t throw the excessive hunger with reactive hypoglycemia (see. Reactive Hypoglycemia).

Sleeve gastrectomy patients who get hungry again quickly after eating describe the feeling as if they had not eaten all day. To prevent feeling extremely hunger:

  • Do not skip your meals.
  • Stay as far away as possible from foods that are high in sugars and carbohydrates, and do not eat foods that contain sugar, especially not at breakfast.
  • Vitamin supplements may increase appetite. So, drink enough water.
  • Take small sips of water between meals.
  • You can make minor changes during menstruation, but don't change your eating habits completely.
  • Your stomach can quickly become full with a small amount of food. This is closely related to the reasons mentioned above. Eating speed, portion size, chewing, etc. (see. Eating speed).
  • Especially sleeve gastrectomy patients who get hungry quickly may prefer fluid intake. Since the stomach empties quickly with liquids, feeling of hunger will quickly develop again. For this reason, eat solid or soft food instead of drinking liquid foods.
